The Hymn  #341          Crown Him with Many Crowns

 By Norma A. Boeckler
Today we remember - Walter Boeckler, who supported Luther's doctrine and independent congregations; Gary Meyer, who participated in our first Ustream services; Brenda Kielher, who with her parents Cliff and Cleo Kiehler, helped start Bethany in New Ulm, Minnesota; and Gladys Jackson Meyer, who supported Bethany from the beginning and enjoyed helping out. Carl Roper supported independent congregations from the beginning. Carol Olsen, Lori Howell's mother, who worshiped with us, passed into eternal life on October 8th. 2021. Christina Jackson met her Savior August 22nd, 2021. Besides these, we have many others we name in our hearts, beloved, deeply missed, children, relatives, friends.

 Epistle
KJV Revelation 7:2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundredand forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. 5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. 6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. 7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. 8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. 9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. 13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Gospel
KJV Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Beatitudes the Fruits of Faith

KJV Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them,

When the 8-volume Luther (Lenker) set was available for $40, two seminarians (on different days) said the same thing - "Look at this." Each one went through the sermons and noted the Scripture heading for each sermon, all 8 volumes. I said, "That's good, but they are already posted at the end of the eighth volume." Both were crestfallen. That was a great example of someone not seeing the whole picture.
The entire Sermon has been done correctly with Loy's Sermon on the Mount  (Lutheran Library) But the self-described modern scholars have claimed the Sermon on the Mount was patched together from the sayings of Jesus. That is the typical Biblical professor today, writing a dissertation on a tiny bit of the Scriptures and missing the picture altogether.
Luther begins his treatment of the Beatitudes by saying that the 8 are the fruits of faith. In other words, they are not for unbelievers but for believers in Christ. So the Beatitudes are short and concise, but so much can be gathered from them. Once again, the KJV is the best and clearest, easily beating "Happy the poor in spirit...
Jesus spoke from the mountain to show the disciples and the people that the Gospel is to be broadcast (like sowing seed) in the open, not hidden or sneaked around by those who have no business. That is definitely the style today. Pastors do not want to do any work, so they try to get into other churches to take away members and brag about their "growth," which used to be called sheep stealing, sounding better on itching ears today as "Church Growth!" I have had people ask to buy or copy my sermons, then tell me how I should not follow the historic readings but the ones from the Vatican. They are all lost and bewildered, like people using vegetable oil in their cars' crankcase. Gimmicks, soft drinks, and popcorn do not plant faith in the hearts of people - only the Word energized by the Spirit can do that.

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Bullies are forever with us, because they can always pick a target and get what they want.  One celebrity pastor said to another pastor, "You are not going to have the wedding of the year, I am!" Others fight to get positions of honor or political power. The denominations (corporations, to be frank) do this to ease out conservatives and installing their  radicals. One Methodist leader said, "Oh, I think we can survive one pastor like him, without wrecking our church body." I read that at a Methodist university library 30 years ago. Yes, the radicals wrecked the Methodist Church and the damage continues. One loud Methodist minister started mocking a conservative Methodist at a big dinner. I did not want to jump on Rev. Loud and hurt his wife's feelings. Rev. Loud did not realize his target was famous everywhere for his musical talent, and he did not answer back.
It is very difficult to get even in life, far better to be the one who succeeds by patience, soft-spoken words, compromise in trivial matters. The kingdom of heaven is far more precious than any dominant role on earth.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

I met a man who had lost $22 million. He was in constant mourning over the lost riches. Others lose jobs, property, favorite possessions. Near Moline is an island called Credit Island - the first to flood when the Mississippi River is overflowing. The name probably comes from the need for credit to rebuild or move away.
The most acute form of mourning is the loss of loved ones (sometimes the alienated too). Death separates us from the people we know - spouses, children, favorite relatives, best friends, and it is a warning about the brevity of earthly life. In my class on counseling, I urge people to concentrate on those who are older, weakened by illness, limited for various reasons. Nothing is more rewarding than giving the intangible - time, listening, helping in some way.
The greatest power of a congregation is not having the biggest structure but enjoying the Gospel in many forms - worship, prayer, friendships, visiting when possible. These things multiply in grace and last the longest time in our hearts. Members and friends were very kind toward me and I enjoy their sharing the loss of Christina. There is an attitude in our society that we do not mention loss, which may explain the fracturing of our society.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
This does not mean timid, which is based on fear. Some say the word here is more like "disciplined." It is true that people go this way and that, then wonder why they are in so much trouble. One grown man lived with his mother and step-dad. He did not even help with the house, but stole money to drink. Finally he came home drunk and was kicked out. Others do the same with gambling or other money-wasting schemes, enjoying the thrills and always seeing their pot of gold in front of them. One man said, "I'm going to get a ton of money from the state lottery." GJ - How much have you spent? Reply - "You'll find out when I win."

Discipline is based upon steady practice. The person who does the routine work honestly will seldom look at the fantasies of the impulsive.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Luther says this is not about the Chief Article because faith in Jesus is already assumed in this part.

Therefore understand here the outward righteousness before the world, which we observe among ourselves towards others, that this is the meaning, short and simple, of these words: he is a really blessed man who perseveringly and assiduously strives to promote the general welfare and the right conduct of every one, and who helps to maintain and carry this out with word and deed, with counsel and act.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Mercy is based upon helping without a demand, and that is why we call charitable acts and giving to be eleemosynary, the Greek word for mercy. The merciful look for ways to help others, such as healing my Lincoln Town Car battery when it was dead. Two different times, men asked to phone AAA insisted on getting the car started and would not do otherwise. It was a great feeling to be treated this way. I have seen many examples, and that makes it very easy to give to others as well. It has a multiplying effect.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Luther distinguished between the imagination of people and God's own teaching. The pure in heart are those who follow God's standards - providing for the family, raising the children, etc. Those matters concern the basis for our society, and they are ignored, mocked, and rejected today. We see God in the ordinary work of life, how children grow, how families related to each other. As the architect famously said, "God is in the details." One young mother-to-be said, "I can't believe how much I love this baby, and I haven't seen her or him yet."

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Yes, the hippies and rioters have burned and destroyed in the name of peace. Others destroy the earth and kill the birds in the name of Green. Overall, peace in the New Testament means obtaining peace through faith in Jesus Christ. Emotions boil over and continue when people demand justice for their cause and will not let go of the punishment. Luther's wisdom was such that he wrote in another sermon - "Identify the wrong and then let it go. God will settle the matter." One thing is sure -
God prevails over anything we want or imagine. Peace begets peace (forgiveness causes forgiveness) and that is the foundation for the fruits of the Spirit. For any marriage I perform, I emphasize the necessity of the Scriptures and forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ. Without forgiveness, there is no partnership, even in secular life.  That is either the greatest blessing or the most terrible doom.

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

There are three levels of disagreement. The first is normal where people banter back and forth, sometimes joking a bit. The second is anger, where the other person's thoughts make people angry and upset. The third level is silence, moving from the stink-eye to the total shun (silence, avoidance, I am no longer talking to you...forever, and I will call you every bad name I can think of).
This last beatitude seems to be the worst and most onerous. "It doesn't belong! It makes me upset!" The final Beatitude is the best, purest, and most comforting, because Jesus and the disciples fulfilled it themselves, and so did all the Christian believers who were guided by the Word and persecuted for faith. Persecution, hatred, imprisonment, torture, and death have been the rewards of Christian faith. The martyrs who died in the Roman stadiums actually built the Christian Church by making paganism disgusting and evil. ("The faster they kill us, the faster we grow.")
People communicate with me about Justification by Faith are shocked by the ugliness and hatred expressed by those who admire and follow the anti-Biblical statutes of CFW Walther, B.A., who was trained in Objective Faithless Justification by Bishop Martin Stephan (who made himself a bishop with Walther as his acolyte). The Stephanite leaders would all be put in prison today.
The irony is - the more the synod leaders ape Church Growth, the faster they diminish and go broke. They must suffer because their Father Below torments them with their failures. Luther - whom they despise - proved that the original version of the Disciples was marriage and the greatest earthly blessing. From faith in Jesus Christ comes all that God the Father intended for His brief ministry on earth.

KJV Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

KJV Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Romans 5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Collect
O almighty, eternal God: We confess that we are poor sinners and cannot answer one of a thousand, when Thou contendest with us; but with all our hearts we thank Thee, that Thou hast taken all our guilt from us and laid it upon Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and made Him to atone for it: We pray Thee graciously to sustain us in faith, and so to govern us by Thy Holy Spirit, that we may live according to Thy will, in neighborly love, service, and helpfulness, and not give way to wrath or revenge, that we may not incur Thy wrath, but always find in Thee a gracious Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one true God, world without end. Amen.

Jesus Is the Great "I AM"

The Reformation is a great way to discuss the theology of the Middle Ages, from Augustine to Luther. Or, Islam to today. Or, the influence of Thomas Aquinas. However, the real meaning of the Reformation, apart from all the subcategories of the Bible, church history, dogmatics, and personalities - one point is central.

The meaning, purpose, and glory of all this - and more - comes from Jesus, the "I AM" of Exodus 3 and John 8 - "Before Abraham was, I AM." Any one or any entity that tries to set aside the work, ministry, and power of Jesus Christ is bound to fail, as we see so clearly in these days.

Jesus is central to the entire Bible, which is the only revelation of God Himself. He is central because God the Father chose to give Him to be our Good Shepherd, and our sacrificed Lamb, and our King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. The Holy Spirit's work is to teach us this truth through the Scriptures, through teaching, preaching, and memory - the truth coming from God the Father and God the Son - in harmony with each other.

This only comes to us through faith in Jesus Christ, faith stirred up and supported by the Holy Spirit teaching us about our Savior Jesus, the Son of God. Thousands of books have been published to lean this way or that about many topics. However, what teaches us faith in Jesus Christ is ultimately the Bible, the true Bible. That is the anchor when we are storm-tossed, depressed, anxious, fearful, and lost.

Every Word of the Bible is divine, aiming at lifting us up, opening our hearts, teaching us the enormous grace of God revealed through faith in Him. The Bible is all-Jesus, not partly Jesus. People like some parts? How kind to treat the unique Word of God so seriously.

The Son of God is eternal, and speaks from Genesis 1 and John 1. "In the beginning [God created the heavens and the earth] was the Word..." both books, unique in starting the same. Do people stop to think that the Creation came from Jesus Himself, the Son of God?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. [GJ - "The same" is pointing to one Person alone.] All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

How can anyone scoff at what God can do, when the Son is the Creator of what the Father has commanded, and the Holy Spirit has executed?

How can we say to ourselves or others, "God cannot do this for me or my loved ones, because He does not know or care or see or feel compassion." Yes, everyone feels discouraged and beaten up at one time or another,

How many dozens of examples do we need to recite to see how much God has done with so little within ourselves? When the disciples wanted to keep the children away (sticky, odorous, and clamoring), Jesus welcomed them and excoriated the disciples. I brought back a lost little white dog last night and all the children beamed "Thank you!" at me with their voices, smiles, and eyes. The little white dog was really half brown from the mud, but the children only saw their tiny friend. So the children around Jesus only saw the Good Shepherd, as we should see Jesus today.

What harm does Jesus do to make us so discouraged, fearful, and angry? The Good Shepherd tends the flocks, calls each individual by name, and leads them to food and clear water. Not only that, He chases the wolves away, the wolves who want to scatter the Flock.

We are far past the time when most denominations will teach any of this. The vast amount of noise is about comparing one religious corporation to another, adoring and honoring it.  People should wear corporate symbols around their necks so we can sort them all out.

But Jesus works in another way. The most oppressed people were burdened by their sins. They could not pay enough to absolve them. Jesus said, "Your works are nothing. I AM your righteousness. Believe in Me, not the demands of the lawgivers."

To this day, many turn Jesus into the Lawgiver and Moses into the Savior.

But He brought joy to the hearts of those who heard and believed He was the one predicted all those centuries. When we consider all the things that led to His torture, crucifixion, death, and resurrection, we realize that those thousands of incidental Promises were and are the unified truth of the Scriptures. That was not just for the past, but for our present and future.

KJV Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

KJV Matthew 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Twentieth Sunday After Trinity

Lord God, heavenly Father: We thank Thee, that of Thy great mercy Thou hast called us by Thy holy word to the blessed marriage-feast of Thy Son, and through Him dost forgive us all our sins; but, being daily beset by temptation, offense, and danger, and being weak in ourselves and given to sin, we beseech Thee graciously to protect us by Thy Holy Spirit, that we fall not; and if we fall and defile our wedding-garment, with which Thy Son hath clothed us, graciously help us again and lead us to repentance, that we fall not forever; preserve in us a constant faith in Thy grace, through our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one true God, world without end. Amen.

The Groom and the Bride

KJV Matthew 22:1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

This is a wonderful parable, so beautiful that most people overlook it and search for something more plain and simple. We have to start with the concept of marriage, the bride and groom. Inside this mysterious example is the major  part of what the Word of God says, openly stated but a puzzle for most people.

First of all, we cannot forget that Jesus began His public ministry at a wedding where He, his disciples, and His mother were invited. Not only did Jesus honor marriage by being there, but He also performed His first miracle, turning water into wine without touching it. Nothing could be used to say it was a trick or an illusion based upon suggestion or illusions.

Marriage is so important that we celebrate and honor each anniversary. Today we have three anniversaries within a week, and we are a tiny congregation that stretches to Australia and the Philippines. A wedding feast is very special, though many overlook it today or downplay the event.

Two aspects of marriage are very clear. One is that love draws the two together, though in some countries, being in love is forbidden. In one part of India, the arrangement of a marriage was so strict that the couple could not give any indication of even liking the other. A glance and a smile could have  doomed them - and they were Christians. The idea was that the union should grow and not start out based on emotions.

The second aspect is very clear, the two become one, no matter what happens in the future. This aspect is repeated throughout the Scriptures.

This passage could be called an allegory, because it is a story where each part has a greater meaning, hidden in the words used. The King is God the Father. The groom is His beloved Son, and the bride is the Church.

Luther:

God here by our own lives and experiences will make known and reflect as in a mirror what we have in Christ; and also by the common state of marriage on earth, in which we were born and reared and now live, he delivers a daily sermon and admonition in order that we should remember and consider this great mystery (for so St. Paul calls it in Ephesians 5:32), that the conjugal life of a man and wife, instituted by God, should be a great, beautiful and wonderful sign, and a tangible, yet spiritual picture, that points out and explains something special, excellent and great, hidden to and inconceivable by the human reason, namely, Christ and his church.

As Luther points out in his second sermon, just as marriage itself transcends all matters, so it is that the relationship between Jesus Christ and each believer is unique, special, and bound up with Heaven itself. Some things about marriage generally true. Each person has strengths where the other is not so strong. Husband and wife usually have different birth orders in their family, like the first-born perfectionist marrying the lovable baby of the family. I gave a book to the baby of the family - she hugged herself because she loved presents. She also said she would probably not read it, more likely in the baby who is not the perfectionist. She had very good intuition about personal relationships. I guessed correctly that her husband was the perfectionist first-born. That reveals itself in almost every marriage and is widely confirmed by academics.

Just as we ignore the divine element in all of history, as if God was never in control of anything, so we have to give credit to God for the way we relate to each other, especially in marriage.  That relationship is unlike any other, not like master and servant, not like boss and employee, but a relationship that is from Heaven itself, a mystery -

Luther:

6. For this accompanies the marriage state, where it is worthy of the name and may be called a truly married life, where man and wife truly live together: firstly true heart-confidence each in each from both sides, as Solomon in Proverbs 31:11 among other virtues of a pious wife also praises this: “The heart of her husband trusteth in her;” that is, he entrusts to her his body and life, money, possessions and honor. Likewise on the other hand, the heart, of the wife clings to her husband, he is her highest, dearest treasure on earth; for she expects and has in him honor, protection and help in all times of her need. Such a completely harmonious, equal and eternal confidence and affection are not found among other persons and stations in life, for example between master and servant, mistress and maidservant, yea, not even between children and parents. For there the love is not thus alike, strong and perfect to one another, and an eternal union does not endure here as in the marriage state, instituted by God; as the text in Genesis 2:24 says: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

Just as marriage itself is a unique relationship, so is our relationship with Christ. That is how this parable is developed. God is portrayed as saying, I will give believers grace, peace, and forgiveness of sin through the love of the Groom, Jesus. He will love, protect, and defend the fragile Bride, the Christian believers.

Luther:

This he clearly shows us in his Word of the Gospel and by the Holy Spirit, whom he gives to his church; and prepares the glorious, joyful marriage feast, at which he is wedded to his bride and he takes her to himself, and, to speak in our childish and human way, leads his bride to the dance as with fife and drum, and takes her in his arm; again, he honors and adorns her with all his finery, that is with the blotting out and washing away of sins, with righteousness and the gift of the Holy Spirit, and with his light, knowledge, strength and all the gifts which belong to that life. These are different chains, rings, velvet, silk, pearls, treasures and jewels from the earthly ones, which are only a dead picture of those heavenly treasures.

10. Therefore, wherever you see or hear bride and bridegroom, or the joy and beauty of a marriage feast, there open your eyes and heart, and behold what your loving Lord and Savior presents and shows to you, who prepares a glorious, royal marriage feast for you, his beloved bride, a living member if you believe in him. In that is eternal joy, good cheer, singing and springing, eternal ornaments, and all riches and the fullness of everything good.

As Luther writes, every marriage reminds us of the joy of that occasion, because the Lord Jesus Christ is not with us to scold, punish, and terrify, but to show us His love, kindness, and grace. I have a number of students who write about faith and salvation and then go back to sin and the Law. Everyone can draw up a long list, but the Savior is here to look for the lost sheep, to bring him home on his shoulders, rejoicing, and telling His neighbors.

The mistake of the false churches have been to throw burdens on the sinner and never let up, always applying the lash of the Law, never the Atonement. On the other hand, there are many today who say there is no Law at all, nothing but grace - as if God has not given us the Means (or Instruments) of that grace, the Word and the Sacraments.

One pastor claimed that Antinomianism and soon became an atheist, so quickly error turns into blasphemy. And yet daily people rejoice in the true Gospel and spread it various ways, enjoying the blessings.
